Edina Group, a leading supplier, installer and maintenance provider for gas and diesel generating sets have been shortlisted at this years’ Sustainable Ireland Gala Awards 2016.
The category award, ‘Best Use of Renewable Energy Sources’, demonstrates a commitment to the use of renewable energy sources and sees Edina Group, support family run business, Gilfresh Produce, to develop on-site energy through renewable energy.
Gilfresh Produce, based in Loughgall, Northern Ireland, together with their growers, grow field vegetables and salads on over 1,000 hectares of land and sells its produce to leading supermarkets throughout Ireland and the UK. Waste vegetables from the washing and packing plant were historically sent to neighbouring farms and used for cattle feed, however, Gilfresh now use this waste together with grass and maize as feedstock for its new Anaerobic Digestion plant which is capable of processing over 7,500 tonnes each year.
The biogas produced from the feedstock is burned and turned into electricity. The electricity generated is enough to power their entire business, from offices to its production process, becoming self-reliant from the electricity grid.
Taking place on Wednesday 7th September at the Ramada Hotel, Belfast, the black tie event will bring together industry leaders from across Ireland and the UK to celebrate best practice and provide an opportunity to network with industry peers.
Edina hopes to build on its success following its recognition at the Energy Now Expo award in February this year, and also at the recent UK AD & Biogas 2016 awards, winning two category awards.
